HOW DO I GET TO YOU!?
Camp Address: 41750 Jenks Lake Rd W., Angelus Oaks, CA, 92305
Approximate directions: Navigate to Angelus Oaks, CA (usual route is to take 38 from Redlands into the mountains). After Angelus Oaks, go 5.7 miles and then take Jenks Lake Rd W to the right. Continue on this road for 1.0 miles and the camp entrance will be on your right.
Park in the lot to your left, and then head to the lodge. You will be given a map of the camp and instructed in how to unload and then park.
Can't wait to see you!!
I'm Flying. Where do I fly?
Great! There are SO MANY airports to choose from! They are listed here, with approximate travel time to the camp:
- Ontario International Airport, ONT (~1:05)
- Burbank, BUR
- LAX, LAX
- Long Beach, ??
- John Wayne, SNA
- Palm Springs?
We DEFINITELY recommend Ontario, as it is the closest, and travel to the camp will be easiest to arrange! Ontario is fairly small, though, so we recommend you book your flight as soon as possible!
Speaking of which, how should I time my flights?
Glad you asked! We would love to see you as much as we can on Friday, and as much as we can on Sunday! So if you are flying on Friday and Sunday, consider that if you are not going to rent a car, transportation up/down the mountain requires a little coordination. We are going to look into shuttles, but that won't work well if you need to arrive at 11PM or leave at 3AM. We understand that can be tricky, so if you'd like to come in Thursday and/or leave Monday (or, stay and hang out longer, whatever), let us know, and we'll make that work!
We will look into the availability of SuperShuttle and Uber (I doubt there will be uber!)
LAX <--> San Bernardino via Metrolink
See below for the Metrolink website!
If you want to fly into LAX, you can buy one ticket and ride all the way to San Bernardino (where someone can easily come and pick you up at any time). Cost is $23 each way ($16.25 senior/disabled/medicare rate). If this option looks good to you, we may be able to get tickets for you in advance -- let us know if this looks good! More details below.
Sounds good, but what does that mean?
LAX is about ~75 miles away from San Bernardino, which is the closest city to camp with a train station. We would come down from the camp to get you from San Bernardino at any time, since it's so close to the camp!
In order to get from LAX to San Bernardino (or the reverse), you'd be taking the FlyAway Bus (a regularly-scheduled charter bus, not a city bus) and Metrolink (LA's Commuter Rail system). You switch between them at Los Angeles Union Station (which is very easy to do).
From LAX to SB: You'd get on the FlyAway Bus at LAX (there are clearly marked signs, and a schedule for when the buses arrive). The FlyAway Bus will take you to Union Station. You grab your bag and head into the station, to the MetroLink platform, where you board the MetroLink train to San Bernardino. You stay on that train until the end, and we will pick you up when you arrive!
From SB to LAX: You can do the opposite of the above -- we'll drop you off at San Bernardino, and you switch to the FlyAway Bus at Union Station.
Eew, a bus! Don't worry, this is a nice bus. I've ridden it a lot, many people who work at LAX and business people ride it, and I've even made my parents take it so I could pick them up at Union Station. It's not a city bus, and does not make any stops in between LAX and Union Station.
Eew, a train! This is a commuter train. It has double decker cars and there's even tables and stuff. It's not a subway or light rail, and there are bathrooms and stuff.
Can I take Metrolink to Burbank Airport?
Actually, yes! You have to transfer in Union Station, but there's a MetroLink stop RIGHT at Bob Hope airport, which is pretty cool. Regular fare for that is $14.25.
Metrolink Website (check schedules, fares, etc.)
Here's the Metrolink website: http://metrolinktrains.com/schedules/stationtostation/
Stations: LAX via FlyAway <--> San Bernardino (note: "LAX via FlyAway" is the station name to use for LAX in order to do it all as one trip).
Please ask us if you have questions!
I'm driving. What do?
Use your favorite directions service! :) But we will add directions here too, a bit later.
- If you're a local: Would you be willing to time your arrival to pick someone up at the airport? (Or have them come to you?)
- If you're renting a car: Would you be willing to coordinate with someone else flying in to the same airport?
